Why is February always like this — so little and so big all at once? It’s the month when winter goes on steroids, snow-packed hardships intensify, people who normally just drove you a little crazy drive you a lot crazy, travel is impossible but necessary, and sleep is illusive. No surprise, I end this February frazzled and a little incoherent.
At the cusp of darkness, I went to a yoga class with Kelley, and as I pushed and pulled myself through the I-can’t-do-this-ness of the last day of February, I felt something small and delicate returning. What could it be? A few more sun salutations and some crazy-hard pilates later, I began to get a glimpse of this new thing: It’s a snow drop.
As I step out of February and into March, I remind myself to watch for the snowdrops within and around, showing me that only in the aftermath of blizzards, thunder-snows and slippery roads to and from home can something this lovely come into being.
