The Balancing Point of the Solstice: Everyday Magic, Day 710

Updated: Sep 29, 2023

Today is the longest day of the year, and not so surprisingly on this balancing point, many things over the last few weeks or months have, for a moment at least, balanced out.

A crisis in one aspect of my work has been largely averted as of yesterday. My son accepted a new VISTA position in the Four Corners region of New Mexico, which brings excitement (and some ease) to much of my family. Some long-term projects have resolved, and new ones are in the works. And, for this moment, the grip of humidity and heat has loosened enough that I can sit on the porch writing this without being drenched in sweat.

Tonight, the nights begin getting longer again, tipping toward a different moment of balance in six months. Later today, the heat will take hold. This weekend, the full moon rises before shedding some of itself to our view. The wind that blows hard through the Osage Orange tree in front of me stops before starting again. Two of our cars under these trees lie dormant before roaring back into action. In truth, everything is at a balancing point in one way or another, but there are times, that’s even moreso, and I’m declaring this such a time.
